Praise Adonai for His provision of weekly rest! Before I knew to keep the Sabbath, I was worn out much of the time. I am so thankful for His merciful, loving command to rest. Shabbat Shalom!
Thoughts, ideas, revelation, dreams and visions can have two sources: the eternal Elohim or the adversary. It can be very easy to be deceived in this world. Kabbalah, new age, mysticism, popular spirituality, labyrinths, etc. are from the adversary. They are evil. Stay away from them. Don’t entertain all spirits, many are demonic. If you are not in the Word of God and pleading with Elohim to protect you from deception and to give you discernment, you are in danger. Just because you had a dream, “revelation,” or “vision” does not mean it is godly. Take all thoughts captive to Yeshua, and test all things. If someone says they are the sole holder of a piece of divine information, be very skeptical. Pray for discernment. Do not “open doors” to, or welcome in, every thought or idea that you have or that someone brings to you. In all groups, including Hebrew Roots and Messianic Judaism, there are charlatans, deceivers, and workers of the adversary. There are also those who are very sincere, but they are sincerely deceived! Guard your mind, heart and spirit with the power of YHWH, praying for His divine protection in all things.
Dear friends, don’t trust every spirit. On the contrary, test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ~~ I John 4: 1
It is a gift of the Spirit to be able to discern between spirits.
…to another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the ability to judge between spirits… ~~ I Corinthians 12: 10
The Spirit expressly states that in the acharit-hayamim (end days) some people will apostatize from the faith by paying attention to deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come from the hypocrisy of liars whose own consciences have been burned, as if with a red-hot, branding iron. ~~ I Timothy 4: 1-2
For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. ~~ Ephesians 6: 12
Don’t quench the Spirit, don’t despise inspired messages. But do test everything – hold onto what is good, but keep away from every form of evil. ~~ I Thessalonians 5: 19-22
For although we do live in the world, we do not wage war in a worldly way; because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God’s power for demolishing strongholds. We demolish arguments and every arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey the Messiah.~~ II Corinthians 10: 3-5
These days you can’t watch television, surf the Internet, or just walk around your local town very long before you see women showing off their bodies. There’s cleavage and curves on display everywhere! While I don’t think we should wear flour sacks from head to toe, the vulgar dress of today’s women in the western world is appalling! Many professing Christians dress just like the rest of society. They have many excuses, such as: it’s just the current style, it’s not like I’m running around naked, so-and-so dresses worse than me, I’ve worked hard for this body and I won’t cover it up, it’s not my problem if people are jealous or lustful, etc.
While I don’t recall the title, I read a book some years ago on fashion and dressing well for your body type. The author was a consultant who helped others with their wardrobe. In one example given, she was hired to help a woman who wanted to be considered for a promotion at her workplace. The author couldn’t convince her that she was not taken seriously and was denigrated by others because she dressed “trashy”. So, they went to the local shopping mall for an experiment. She had the woman wear her favorite work outfit and walk around the mall. The author stopped people, men and women, to ask them what they thought of this woman walking around, just by looking at her. All the responses were negative, with many being very degrading of her, calling her a “whore”, etc. When she brought these comments to her client, she was shocked. She didn’t think it was fair for someone to judge her simply by her clothes. Next, the author had her client dress in a tailored professional outfit that the author chose and they went to a club. Her client was amazed that no one asked for her phone number or tried to “pick her up” but rather men opened the door for her and treated her respectfully, like a lady. She had never been treated that way before.
For those of us who worship the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, we should take our wardrobe very seriously. What is our motivation for what we wear? Why do we like certain clothes over others? YHWH should not be dishonored in our choice of attire.
Likewise, the women, when they pray, should be dressed modestly and sensibly in respectable attire, not with elaborate hairstyles and gold jewelry, or pearls, or expensive clothes. Rather, they should adorn themselves with what is appropriate for women who claim to be worshipping God, namely, good deeds. ~~ I Timothy 2: 9-10
Your beauty should not consist in externals such as fancy hairstyles, gold jewelry or what you wear; rather, let it be the inner character of your heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit. In God’s sight this is of great value. This is how the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves and submit to their husbands, the way Sarah obeyed Avraham, honoring him as her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not succumb to fear. ~~ I Peter 3: 3-6
Recently, a post on a well-known blog, and especially the response, caught my eye. See here
For those who aren’t aware, SurvivalBlog.com is the number one website for preparedness and survival information. James Wesley Rawles started this site many years ago and often mentioned his Christian faith. In the last year or two, he hired another person to be the primary editor and writer for this site. Hugh Latimer, the new editor, is apparently a Torah-pursuer! His response to a letter written to the site (see the link above) is very interesting! I would definitely correct two things he writes, first the Israelites were in Egypt for 430 years as per Exodus 12:40-41 and second, I would strongly disagree that Hebrew is easily learned, especially for adults who are native English speakers. Besides those two details, I think he’s fairly accurate in his explanation. I was definitely surprised at his Torah-uplifting response. There are more people coming to the truth of the Whole Word of God and the validity of the Torah than we know. Praise Adonai!.
We are directed by YHWH’s eternal Word, to watch our tongues and be careful what we say. If we truly understood that we will have to answer for our idle chatter and careless talk, would that change us and our conversations? Let’s put our words under Yeshua’s control and be quick to sincerely ask His forgiveness when our words are unkind, foolish, and impure.
A knowledgeable person controls his tongue; a discerning person controls his temper. Even a fool, if he stays silent, is thought wise; he who keeps his mouth shut can pass for smart. ~~ Proverbs 17: 27-28
Don’t speak impulsively – don’t be in a hurry to give voice to your words before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth, so let your words be few. For nightmares come from worrying too much; and a fool, when he speaks, chatters too much. ~~ Ecclesiastes 5: 1-2
Therefore, my dear brothers, let every person be quick to listen, but slow to speak, slow to get angry… ~~ James 1:19
And, this comes directly from the mouth of our Lord Yeshua:
“Moreover, I tell you this: on the Day of Judgment people will have to give account for every careless word they have spoken; for by your own words you will be acquitted, and by your own words you will be condemned.” ~~ Matthew 12: 36-37
What a great Scripture to begin the week! Baruch HaShem! Praise to YHWH!
I am so joyful in Adonai! My soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in salvation, dressed me with a robe of triumph, like a bridegroom wearing a festive turban, like a bride adorned with her jewels. For just as the earth brings forth its plants, or a garden makes its plants spring up, so Adonai, God, will cause victory and glory to spring up before all nations. ~~ Isaiah 61: 10-11
