March Mitzvot Madness Day 17
Do you remember those creepy movie scenes where a hunter drinks the blood of the animal he killed? Did you know that some places (mainly east Asia, from what I understand) sell deer blood as a nutritional supplement? Not a good idea! Adonai clearly instructs us to not eat blood.
And, remember the “starter commandments” the Apostles gave to the new believers in Messiah? Typically it is thought that since they were coming from pagan backgrounds, it was most crucial to immediately address the behaviors related to their idolatrous practices. Consuming blood was one of those things.
…only flesh with its life, which is its blood, you are not to eat. ~~ Genesis 9: 4
Just take care not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you are not to eat the life with the meat. Don’t eat it, but pour it out on the ground like water. Do not eat it, so that things will go well with you and with your children after you, as you do what Adonai sees as right. ~~ Deuteronomy 12: 23-25
It is to be a permanent regulation through all your generations wherever you live that you will eat neither fat nor blood. ~~ Leviticus 3: 17
When someone from the community of Isra’el or one of the foreigners living with you eats any kind of blood, I will set myself against that person who eats blood and cut him off from his people. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for yourselves; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life. This is why I told the people of Isra’el, ‘None of you is to eat blood, nor is any foreigner living with you to eat blood.’ ~~ Leviticus 17: 10-12
Therefore, my opinion is that we should not put obstacles in the way of the Goyim who are turning to God. Instead, we should write them a letter telling them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from fornication, from what is strangled and from blood. For from the earliest times, Moshe has had in every city those who proclaim him, with his words being read in the synagogues every Shabbat. ~~ Acts 15: 19-21
