If you hope to make at least part of your living from your homestead, be strategic in placing that into your startup plan. Even when farm generating income might be years away, consider the possibilities when you are first starting out. Think through the process completely, as much as possible. There will be aspects to these long-term plans that will determine how the original homestead is setup. For instance, if a pick-your-own berry, pumpkin, vegetable, whatever patch is on your mind, be strategic in where you place your produce. It should be in a location on your property that can be easily accessible by others without inconveniencing you or interfering with your other activities or livestock. But it also shouldn’t be next to a busy road out of view from your home, tempting passersby to steal your goods.
