Health Tip: Sore Throats

A sore throat is a common complaint in colds, infections, and other illnesses.  Sometimes all you need to get going again is to kick that soreness to the curb.  Did you know there is a simple way to help with that?

Sore throat relief:  As soon as you notice a sore throat coming on, start gargling salt water.

(1) Put enough salt in a small amount of water so that when you put it in your mouth you notice the salt but not so much that it overwhelms you.  NOTE:  If the cup with salt water sits anytime at all, be sure to stir it or swish it around so the salt doesn’t sit on the bottom when you go to put some in your mouth.

(2) Gargle several times with the salt water, and try to keep it on the back of your throat before spitting it out.  NOTE:  Don’t swallow the salt water.

(3) After you gargle, don’t eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes.  Let the residual salt do its work on your throat.

(4) Follow these steps multiple times each day until your sore throat is gone.  It may not 100% “cure” it, but it will almost certainly help.
