Pentecost in the Old Testament

Pentecost as described in the Book of Acts is incredible!  What a outpouring of the power, love and spirit of our Abba!  But this was nothing new.  It began at Sinai, with the giving of His instructions.  Just like a loving parent, He sets boundaries and rules for His children to keep them safe.  It pleases Him when His children obey His instructions.  And, when like children, we ask “but WHY??” our Father doesn’t always explain.  Just “do as I say, my child.  It’s because I love you.”

One such instruction is to observe the Feast of Weeks, aka Shavuot, aka Pentecost.  He gave this instruction thousands of years before the events recorded in the Book of Acts.  This is why Yeshua’s disciples were gathered together.  They were observing Abba’s set-apart days!  What an amazing Elohim we serve!  He knows the end from the beginning and all His purposes fit together (i.e. the “old” and “new” testaments) like hand in glove! 

We are celebrating Shavuot / Pentecost tomorrow.  Whenever you observe this special day, we wish you a day of spirit-filled blessing!

Obituary Watch

It’s an age-old joke (pun intended) that you know you’re getting old when your conversations are increasingly about who is sick, who has died, and what someone’s obituary said.  Dear Hubby and I have lived and worked around many elderly people, both in the demographic makeup of the communities we’ve lived in and in the jobs we have held.  Dear Hubby especially has been a blessing to countless elderly people through the years with his strong physical abilities and soft, empathetic heart.  So, unfortunately, we have seen many familiar names and faces within obituaries.  But recently it occurred to me that the random perusal of the death notices I had done in the past had become a weekly (or more) activity.  Getting old?  More so every day, right?  Ahhh…it’s surreal when the adage comes alive in you!  Shalom!

Israel’s War on Terror

Keep praying for Israel, her people and land.

Did you know that the word Hamas, as in the name of the terror organization, has an interesting meaning in Hebrew?  It means violence, oppression, robbery, and evil-doing.  As a verb, it also means “to take by violence”, “to rob” and “to destroy”.  Does that remind you of anything?  The Adversary – who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10: 10 and 1 Peter 5: 8)?  So does that mean the spirit of these terrorists is aligned with the evil one?  Truly it is a spiritual war manifesting in the physical.

Busy Season

Dear Hubby and I have entered a busy season of life again.  I’m sure you have these rollercoasters like we do.  At times there seems to be an abundance of monotony, or as we sometimes liken it to, a gerbil wheel.  It’s not as if you have nothing to do, but it is just the monotony of life without much else.  There seems to be more uncertainty and confusion than clarity.  In our case, we’ll pray diligently through this period.  Then after a time, His timing is right, and our prayers are answered, not usually in the manner we expect, but answered nonetheless.  The wheel stops and we have clarity on a path to take!  No more wandering in circles or feelings of purposelessness – for awhile.  Then the cycle begins again at some point.  It is the cycle of life, I suppose.  

We are incredibly thankful for Abba’s direction!  He has been giving it to us lately in amazing fashion!  (We’ll tell you more about it as we can…)

While this busy season is upon us, you may notice more absence from this blog.  Emails, comments and questions may not be answered in a timely fashion.  Please accept apologies for that.  Posts themselves may be few and far-between.  Yah-willing, we’ll be back to “normal” (whatever that is) on this site before long…
